Francisca Ortiz Ruiz presentó el pasado jueves 20 de junio, 2024, su resultados de su investigación titulada “Social support and care networks of older people in Chile”. Esto fue en el marco de la visita de investigación realizada durante esa semana en la Escuela de Salud y Bienestar, de la Universidad de Glasgow, en Escocia.

Resumen de la ponencia: This research seeks to understand older people's care and support networks in Santiago de Chile. The study aims to identify and describe older people's perceived care and experienced support networks, emphasizing gender and age inequalities. Additionally, it will evaluate the relevance of the time elapsed in maintaining older people's care and support networks. This presentation draws on fieldwork conducted in a community centre between May and September 2022, comprising three different waves of interviews. Information was collected about the complete network inside the community centre and their ego networks outside the institution. This presentation shares the exploration of the data divided into three main aspects. Firstly, it discusses the theoretical and methodological approach to the care and social support concepts from a network perspective. Secondly, it explores the care and support networks of older people. Finally, it focuses on the friendship networks of the participants to evaluate the relevant changes through time.

Durante la visita, Francisca también tuvo la oportunidad de reunirse con otros investigadores, con quienes se entablaron líneas de colaboración a futuro.
