The former director of the Economic Development division of CEPAL delivered an interview to the Diario Financiero regarding the crisis that Chilean society is currently going through.
Barbara Stalling was interviewed in the context of her participation in an academic seminar organized by the Doctoral Program in Public Policies, under the Center for Economics and Social Policies and the Center for Research in Society and Health of the Universidad Mayor. In her seminar, the academic made a comparison between the productive development strategies of Latin American and East Asian countries, with the objective of analyzing and putting into perspective the factors that prevent Latin America from consolidating itself as a developed region.
In her interview, the Brown University academic addressed the country's fiscal policy, the behavior and lack of connection of the elite with the rest of society, and the main factors that have prevented a successful redistribution of resources on the ground national; All elements that together help to shed light on the current crisis in the country: "the government must take action in a matter of weeks, not months or years."
