On the morning of Monday, November 4, the Director of the Center for Economics and Social Policies, Claudia Sanhueza, was interviewed in the morning program of Radio Infinita, “Divina Proporción”.
During the interview, there was talk about triggers of the demonstrations that have emerged in Chile for two weeks. The director explained that there is a multiplicity of factors and an accumulation of demands that were not met in time, the pension system being the “heart of the problem”, since it affects the elderly population at present, and will also affect the future to the current younger generations.
According to Claudia Sanhueza, the proposal of the Government's social agenda is a small step forward, but it is far from what it should be, since the Pension Law Project and the Tax Reform go against public debate. In addition, the Director referred to the way in which the Government and parliamentarians are dealing with social demands: “we need urgency, we need to increase pensions today and not in 30 years”.
