This research project will aim at improving time use models and values of time, and their inclusion within a multidisciplinary economic framework. The objective is threefold: first, I will examine other forms of viewing time use within a work-leisure cycle, formulating new models that explicitly incorporate new and improved links between time use and goods consumption; second, I will estimate and compare current and new time use models using real Chilean and International data; third, I will conduct a time use survey to a group of elite Chilean athletes. This will be performed in order to empirically test current and proposed models and to contrast it with national results. The analysis and use of available information on individual time allocation should deliver a more precise interpretation of the decision-making process and will help towards the identification of the needs for operational-analytical, quantitative and/or qualitative- models, their characteristics and limitations.
